The Franklin-Portland Gateway – A Place for Everyone
278 New or Rehabbed Units transform an Abandoned Intersection
In 1999, amidst a severe housing shortage, Hope envisioned rebuilding all four corners of a long-abandoned intersection in the Phillips neighborhood. There was significant skepticism about changing this high traffic, drug-ridden area of Minneapolis. Undaunted, we put together a strategic partnership with non-profit developer Aeon. Hope’s vision of a diverse, multi-cultural community is becoming a reality. Gateway is a success story in a rapidly gentrifying urban center. Without thoughtful, long-term intervention, working class people will be driven out of our inner-city neighborhoods. The Gateway strategy is to build affordability first. 100% of new housing units in Phase I are affordable, assuring the continued presence of low-income people in urban neighborhoods. Hope’s Real Estate Development builds places where diverse community flourishes.
