“To begin, we were just little. We were temporary shelter—an oasis. Sanctuary for women and kids who were homeless. And, we had the space, and the goal was just to provide some safety and community for people who were pretty isolated. And it was pretty dark times for them. Some people assume that the problems of the inner city can be solved by getting rid of the inner city people. And we had learned before that the people weren’t the problem, the people were the solution.”

SPEAC: Sustainable Progress through Engaging Active Citizens
SPEAC is an eight month community organizing and leadership training for adults. SPEAC leaders share a commitment to making change in their community through community organizing.The group continues to work on engaging community residents and addressing issues of equity including challenging the lack of resources at Peavey Park, located a block from Hope.
Neighborhood Entrepreneur Training Program
Hope partners with Neighborhood Development Center to offer a 16-week training to adults who want to start or expand a small business. Every year, graduates tell us it is exactly what they needed to get their feet on the ground and move forward with their business idea.
