“At Hope Community, it’s not just providing an affordable apartment, it’s about how can we help people succeed? How can we invest in people so that they can advance in their education, so that they can be homeowners one day, so that their kids can go to college?”
A neighborhood-based model that is changing the future of a neighborhood one mile south of downtown Minneapolis.

In 1999, amidst a severe housing shortage, Hope envisioned rebuilding all four corners of a long-abandoned intersection in the Phillips neighborhood. There was significant skepticism about changing this high traffic, drug-ridden area of Minneapolis. Undaunted, Hope put together a strategic partnership with non-profit developer Aeon. Our vision of a diverse, multi-cultural community is becoming a reality. Learn more about the project’s history.
- South Quarter features 225 new units of high-quality rental and homeownership housing, from studios to large three-bedroom units.
- Ample green space, semi-private courtyards, and children’s play spaces invite residents and neighbors to gather and strengthen community ties.
- South Quarter designs complement the historic urban architecture of Minneapolis and the surrounding neighborhood.
