Overview

Hope Community in the Neighborhood illustrates Hope Community’s neighborhood revitalization work at Portland and Franklin Avenues a mile south of downtown Minneapolis.

The Hope Block, renovation of most of the buildings on two square blocks, embodies revitalization principles such as good design, solid renovation and construction, community gathering places, and green space. Those principles led to the innovative Children’s Village Plan – a neighborhood vision that dared to hope for a strong future in a neighborhood most had written off – and eventually to the Franklin-Portland Gateway. The Gateway with over 220 new housing units and commercial space on all four corners of the prominent intersection is changing the face of the community.
