The Wellstone

The Wellstone project brings life to the northeast corner the Gateway site. The 49-unit, four-story (75% affordable) green building and MN Green Communities award winner demonstrates the economically achievable possibilities of building sustainably in Minnesota. Extensive sustainability strategies are integrated throughout the development and include a solar thermal hot water system, native landscaping, and integrated storm water management all of which will greatly reduce the overall environmental impact of this affordable housing development. In addition to apartments, the Wellstone offers 7,000 square feet of commercial and community space.

The Wellstone is part of the Franklin Portland Gateway Project. Developed in partnership with Aeon.

The Wellstone building is named in the honor of Senator Wellstone. In the summer of 1997 Senator Wellstone and his wife, Sheila, came to Hope Community as part of a national tour. When we told people in the community about the visit several people prepared to talk with them about their community. The Senator told us it was one of the most impressive meetings he had, and it is part of Hope’s history.
